CJIM Publishing Group Inc. was founded by the original Editors-in-Chief (William Bennett and Trevor Parton), Managing Editors (Demitra Canoutas and Bryan Dobbs), and Chief Development Officer (Seth Alexander) of the Carolina Journal of Interdisciplinary Medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.


The Board of Directors of CJIM Publishing Group Inc. distributes funds donated to the corporation, provides mentorship and guidance to the executive board of the Carolina Journal of Interdisciplinary Medicine at UNC School of Medicine, and directs the corporations actions to promote and support our mission of expanding research amongst health professional students.

William Cannon Bennett MD MS, President

Dr. William (Will) Bennett is a general surgery resident at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. Will holds a M.S. in Physiology from North Carolina State University, and an MD from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Will has published works from a variety of research initiatives ranging from medical education to clinical and basic sciences. Recognizing early exposure to research as a key component of his personal and professional development, he endeavors to encourage and assist medical and pre-medical student participation in research. Thus, the foundation of CJIM and CJIM Publishing Group represent a natural extension of his dual passions for research and medical education.

Trevor Parton MD MS, Vice President

Dr. Trevor Parton is an internal medicine resident at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He holds a Master’s of Physiology from North Carolina State University and an MD from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. His interests include pulmonary and critical care medicine, medical education, and global health.

Seth McKenzie Alexander MD EdM, Secretary & Treasurer

Dr. Seth Alexander is an Internal Medicine-Pediatrics resident at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. He completed medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel hill and holds a masters degree in education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. His research interests include technological innovation in medical education (technological adaptation, AI, VR, etc.), expanding access to medical education through alternative training structures, and the teaching of bedside medicine.

Demitra A Canoutas MD MS

Dr. Demitra (Demi) Canoutas is an obstetrics-gynecology resident at Eastern Carolina University-Vidant Health Center in Greenville, NC. She holds a bachelors degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Biology with a second major in Psychology. She spent four years at UNC in a lab studying glioblastoma. She also holds a Master’s of Physiology from North Carolina State University and an MD from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Her professional interests are in writing, research, and global health.

Bryan Dobbs MD MPH

Dr. Bryan Dobbs is a fourth year medical student at UNC School of Medicine interested in psychiatry, neurology, and public health currently pursuing a dual degree from the Gillings School of Global Public Health. His interest and involvement in research began during undergraduate at NYU where he worked in psychology and neuroscience labs. After graduating, he spent 2 years working at the NYU MS Care Center on clinical research, gaining experience in the process academic work takes from study to publication, and deepened his interest in research and publication. He has remained committed to research throughout since starting medical school at UNC, adding an additional year to his studies to complete his MPH and continue work with CJIM. He is excited to watch CJIM grow into something wonderful for the Carolina community.
